Last summer, I took my nieces to Cafe Boulevard in the Oregon District (that’s in Dayton, Ohio). It’s a fine dining establishment and the girls were very excited. They wore sundresses and their mom bought them new sandals. They carried purses and put on sparkly lip gloss. I had to draw the line at them wearing gloves (it was one of the few really hot days we’ve had this summer), which disappointed the 5 year old so much she nearly forgot to show me her special hair- done just for our lunch date. When I walked in to pick them up, all they did was chatter on and on about their ‘fancy’ lunch and what a ‘fancy’ time we would have. So, we piled into my car and started out for our very fancy afternoon.   Cafe Boulevard has a gorgeous back patio, so we decided to have our fancy time out there. The owner of the restaurant has a unique playlist of music- much of which has a very international feel, with some really strong rhythms. Pretty soon, the girls were doing a little shimmy in their seats. They weren’t being rude- just wiggling to the music- almost like they just couldn’t help themselves. So I asked them if maybe they wanted to get up and dance. The look of joy on their faces was priceless! Yes, they wanted to get up on the beautiful patio in their fancy dresses and dance to the special music! Yes, they wanted to jump and twirl and twist to their hearts content! Yes, they wanted me to join them…   Hold up.   I am not 3, nor 5. I am not an adorable preschooler. I don’t even own a fancy dress.   No way could I get up and dance. The other customers and staff would think I was ridiculous.   But- what do ya do when two sets of innocent blue eyes look up at you and ask you to do a fancy dance on your fancy date to a fancy restaurant? I’ll tell ya- you let everyone else in the place think you’re a bit ridiculous as you twirl and spin with two little girls that are having the time of...
